Metal., PL Unc. Holed and suspended by a frayed R/W/B ribbon.

The obverse features an incused image of Lincoln facing left that

is a very close copy of George Morgan’s obverse for the Lincoln

medal from the US Mint’s Presidential series. It is surrounded

by a band bearing an incused legend reading: ABRAHAM

Closed wreath around quotation from Lincoln’s Gettysburg

Address. DEDICATION/ THAT THIS/ NATION, UNDER

THAT GOVERNMENT/ OF THE PEOPLE/ BY THE PEOPLE/

in original uninscribed box of issue and with its paper insert

AU. Unholed, as seldom found. Obverse: Jugate busts of Grant

& Colfax to the right, their names to either side. Reverse:

NATIONAL UNION REPUBLICAN CANDIDATES. 1869 -

1873 AROUND FOR/ PRESIDENT/ AND/ VICEPRESIDENT/

OF THE/ UNITED STATES, all in old English script. (F)

UNLISTED GRANT STORECARD - H. & N. KREISMAN,

PEORIA, ILL.

37.7mm. WM. Unsigned. Holed Fine, with an

obverse edge nick at 5:00 and scattered field marks on the reverse

consistent with the grade and soft metal. Obv: GENERAL U.S.

GRANT to either side o0f a military bust right. Rx: PRESENTED

BY H. & N. KREISMAN around a waving flag on a pole.

Heretofore unreported! The obverse portrait of Grant is similar to

that on the smaller (32mm) Grant shells cataloged as USG 1868-

49 & 50. There are no other known single portrait tokens of Grant

in this 38mm size. The Kreisman firm was a men’s clothing

establishment located at 108 South Adams St. in Peoria, IL. TO

the best of our knowledge, this is the only known example of this

token. (F)

USG 1868-19. 31.8mm.

Black Hard Rubber. Holed, as issued. Choice Uncirculated.

Obverse with small jugate busts of Grant and Colfax to the left

in a finely lined field. GRANT/ &/ COLFAX inscribed in large

letters on the reverse.

The collecting of hard rubber tokens is a specialty all of its own.

Most of them are transportation or merchant tokens; relatively

few are politicals - and they are highly prized. (G)

JAB-32. 25mm. 2.2mm thick. 8.8 grams. Bronze. John A.

Bolen, Sc. Brown AU. Obverse with a civilian bust of Grant to

the right, GRANT, above. The reverse is inscribed: GEN. U.S.

GRANT/ OUR NEXT/ PRESIDENT/ MAY/ HE IN WISDOM/.

RULE/ THE COUNTRY HE HAS SAVED. (F)

RARE GARFIELD - HANCOCK MULE

. JG 1880-7(a).

27.6mm . Gilt Copper. Choice PL Uncirculated. Obverse with

a bust of Garfield to the left. JAMES A. GARFIELD/. THE

NATION’S above. CHOICE/ FOR PRESIDENT/ 1880 below.

The reverse bears a civilian bust of Hancock to the left with

crossed laurel branches below. WINFIELD SCOTT HANCOCK

above. THE PEOPLE’S CHOICE/ FOR PRESIDENT 1880. To

either side of the bust is an epaulette with two stars representing

Hancock’s rank in the Union forces during the Civil War.

The Hancock reverse was used as the obverse of WSH 1880-2.

In the sale of the Isaac F. Wood Collection (1894) the cataloger

stated that only 5 sets of this token were struck in silver, copper

and gilt White Metal. No mention was made of gilt copper. The

PL MS-65 white metal specimen in the 2013 Ford sale brought

$158.00. (F)
