14 ¼ x 10” Cast Bronze.

THEODORE ROOSEVELT PORTRAIT PLAQUE, 1922.
Unlisted by Fuld. 9 1/4 x 7”. Foundry Cast Bronze. Charles
Andrew Hafner, Sc. Uniface. Integral loops and wire on the
reverse for suspension. About Uncirculated. A handsome low
relief profile portrait of Roosevelt faces left. Inscribed in the
exergue is: THEODORE ROOSEVELT/ 1858 . 1919. Signed by
Haffner at lower left and dated 1922.
Hafner, a pupil of James Earle Fraser and Solon Borglum, is
not well known as a medalist. This is a shame, as his talent,
evidenced by this handsome portrait, is quite evident. This
plaque is sometimes found mounted on a slab of green marble
with the bronze signed by the S. Klaber Co. on the edge. This
example is not. (H)

form of success that comes, not to the man who desires mere
ease and peace, but to him who does not shrink from danger,
hard-ship, or bitter toil, and who, out of these wins the splendid
ultimate triumph.”
This plaque comes in two variations. The first is signed “A.H.
Sanders” on the truncation of the bust. The second is unsigned.
This is the unsigned variety. (G)

UNLISTED
THEODORE
ROOSEVELT
PLAQUE
MOUNTED ON WOOD, ND.
4 1/4” Bronze. XF. Uniface.
Singed BENTZ on the truncation of the bust. Mounted on an
8”wooden roundel with a suspension loop on the reverse. This
is an unusual portrait of TR with wavy hair, looking downward,
signature pince nez glasses and an overall expression that makes
him look very much less than vibrant.
