Neuzil estimates the population of this rare medalet as between
6-10 pieces. Clinton was one of New York’s most important
politicians. He was appointed to the Senate of the United States
in 1802, but resigned to became Mayor of New York City in
1803. While mayor, he ran for the Presidency of the United
States against James Madison and was narrowly defeated.
McSorley believes that that medalet is related to his presidential
campaign. If so, it would make this piece one of our earliest
politicals! We sold a proof with light rub and scattered tarnish
streaks and field marks in our 2005 Auction 74 for $1035.00 (I)
