1093. SENSATIONAL CAST BRONZE STATUE OF LIBERTY
CENTENNIAL PLAQUE, 1986.
9 3/4” Bronze. Luthringer &
Lievain, Sc.. (Paris Mint) Edge marked cornucopia 1986. No.
26/100. There is a large mounting hole in the rim as made.
Uncirculated. This huge bronze plaque is the work of Monnaie
de Paris sculptor Rene Andrei. The obverse of this magnificent
piece shows a high-relief, full-length view of Liberty flanked by
profile portraits of both Bartholdi and his iron framework engineer
Gustave Eiffel — the same Eiffel who designed the famous
Eiffel Tower in Paris. The reverse depicts a full-length back view
of the statue along with various other Parisian and New York
monuments and landmarks associated with Bartholdi and Eiffel.
This would certainly be the centerpiece of any Statue of Liberty
display. The original offering price in 1986 was $600.00. This

3653 badges were made for the 1930 trip. An additional 1,766
pieces were made for the 1931 trip which used the 1930 dated
obverse. Housed in its original Tiffany & Co. imprinted box of

Bronze. Paul Vincze, Sc. XF/AU. With the obverse side several
shades darker than the reverser. Two women face one another
with right hands extended and joined over the Atlantic Ocean.
Their left hands rest on their respective national shields. A ribbon
below is inscribed: 1620 MAYFLOWER 1957. At top left in the
distance is the Statue of Liberty with the Mayflower at right. Rx:
THUS OUT OF SMALL BEGINNINGS GREATER THINGS HAVE
BEEN PRODUCED. Below, a group of pilgrims in a depiction of the

medals struck by Medallic Art Co. (total of 4.83 oz.) Joseph
Di Lorenzo, Sc. Choice Unc. Housed in its original wooden
presentation case. Each medal has a common reverse: SYMBOLS
OF LIBERTY CONGRESSIONAL EDITION around a displayed
eagle. There are four different obverses: (1) AMERICAN FLAG;
(2) STATUE OF LIBERTY; (3) AMERICAN EAGLE; (4) LIBERTY
BELL.
This four medal set was issued as part of a special Congressional
Edition to honor the traditions of the United States Congress and
the role it played in protecting the and promulgating American
liberty. The sets were presented to each member of the 92nd
Congress in 1971, then sold to the public. (E)
