frontal portrait of Dana and the legend: 1843 CHARLES EDMUND
DANA 1914. The reverse features the seal of THE NUMISMATIC
AND ANTIQUARIAN SOCIETY OF PHILADELPHIA.
Charles Dana studied at the Pennsylvania Academy with Thomas
Eakins and at the Royal Academies in Dresden and Munich
and in Paris with Evariste Luminais. He was a trustee of the
Philadelphia Museum School of Industrial Art and a teacher at the
University of Pennsylvania. He was also the subject of an Eakins
portrait and was a member of the Philadelphia Sketch Club from
1867 until his death in 1924.

1121. MEMBERSHIP BADGE – QUENTIN ROOSEVELT COUNCIL
JUNIOR UNITEDAMERICAN MECHANICS, CA, 1919.
3 ¾” long.
Silver Plated with R/W/B enamel. XF/AU. A four piece hanging
badge. Pinback header with a ribbon inscribed J.O.U.A.M. over
crossed gavels suspends a R/W/B enameled US flag with 13 stars
to which is attached a shield shaped drop bearing the insignia
of the order. A chain suspension from the center of the header
consists of a drop inscribed: LIEUT/ QUENTIN ROOSEVELT/ 301/
COUNCIL.
JOUAM council #301 was formed in 1919 and was named after the
youngest son of President Theodore Roosevelt, Quentin, who was
killed in aerial combat over France on Bastille Day (July 14), 1918.

Rulau states, “Plain Edge” but this example carries the edgemark,

MELLON” MEDAL, 1924.

Obv: ANDREW W. MELLON - PATRIOT – FINANCIER –
PENNSYLVANIAN around a bust of Mellon left. Dated JANUARY
19/1924 in the left field and inscribed MANUFACTURERS/ CLUB
PHILA in the right field. Morgan’s signature is on the truncation
of the bust with the date 1922. Reverse: ROBERT MORRIS -
PATRIOT – FINANCIER – PENNSYLVANIAN 1734 – 1806 around
a front facing bust of Morris. Signed BB&B on the truncation of the
bust.
This medal was issued for the January 19, 1924 Manufacturers
Club of Philadelphia dinner. The theme of that dinner was “Morris
to Mellon”, held in honor of Treasury Secretary Andrew Mellon and
to commemorate Robert Morris. (E-F)
