About Uncirculated.
This bronze plaque features a bas-relief
knee length portrait of Robert Louis Stevenson portrait depicting
the writer wearing a cap and heavy overcoat that he holds closed
across his chest with his right hand. His left hand is tucked into
his coat pocket. At bottom two open wreaths surrounded his vital
dates 1850 NSD 1894.
The plaque is inscribed as follows: Here dwelt Robert Louis
Stevenson during the winter 1887-1888 “I was walking in the
verandah of a small house outside the hamlet of Saranac. It was
winter; the night was very dark. The air clear and cold and sweet
with purity of forests. For the making of a story here were fine
conditions. “COME, SAID I TO MY ENGINE, LET US MAKE
ATALE.” The Genesis of Ballantrae. Here he wrote “The Master
of Ballantrae”, “A Christmas Sermon,” “The Lantern Bearers”,
“Pulvis et Umbra,” “Beggars” “Gentlemen”, “A Chapter on
Dreams.”
This is a reduced size bronze from the much larger piece which
is mounted at the Saranac cottage. It is the first we have seen and
had the pleasure to offer. ($800-1200)

of the well-known Chicago medallist. Rx: Wreath surrounds a
shield shaped plaque insc: 1866/ TO COMMEMORATE/ THE

For many years the C.H.Hanson firm was said to have been
named after “Charles” H. Hanson, its founder and chief engraver.
