Vail, who was a prominent attorney in Cleveland, OH. A number
of newspaper society columns record regular visits of Mr. and
Mrs. Vail to Winnipeg, Canada. The fact that there is a Lake
Keewaydin in Canada might creation a presumption that this is a
Canadian item.

Uncirculated with some scattered dark tarnish. Attractive
multi-colored toning. Obverse with facing bust of Foch.
COMMEMORATING THE VISIT OF MARSHALL FOCH TO
THE VNITED STATES around. The reverse presents a winged
female figure between the shields of France and the United
States. She carries the U.S. First World War discharge button; a
shield over her left arm.
This is a particularly striking work by Aitken, who is best known
among numismatists for his design of the Panama Pacific $50
gold coins. (G)

bears a high relief bust of JOHN COTTON DANA, his
name below. The reverse depicts a front view of the Newark
(N.J.) museum. Inscribed above is: THIS MUSEUM IS/THE
THOUGHT AND/ WORK OF/ JOHN COTTON DANA. The
Roman numerals for 1925 appear at bottom.
There are three medallic portraits of Dana by Flanagan, based
on life sketches and commemorating Dana’s accomplishments.
This plaquette was a souvenir of the dedication of the museum
building in 1925. A unique example in gold was sold for $230;
12 silver pieces at $12 and 200 bronze at $2.60 each. (F)
