CGI3:72A. 60 x 25.7mm. Silver (74.9 grams.) Lucien-Jean
Cariat, Sc. (Paris Mint. Cornucopia 1ARGENT edgemark.)
Uncirculated. Obv: A figure of Victory in the guise of a robed
female figure stands with her arms upraised holding a laurel
branch in her right hand. On the reverse is the Trumpet of Fame
lying against a large laurel branch. Below is an uninscribed
cartouche.

Uncirculated. Obverse with a dirigible in flight at upper right.
Below, a nude female figure is seated holding a scroll; books piled
on a stack to her left. The scroll is inscribed: LE/ BELGIQUE/
PREMIER/ DIRIGEABLE/ BELGE/ HOMMAGE/ A SES/
PROMOTEURS. Inscribed in the exergue: LES COMMUNES
D’AUDERGHEM ET DE WATERMAEL - BOITSFORT.
At the bottom of the reverse is an incused inscription
which reads: OFFERTE A ROBERT GOLDSCHMIDT ET
ERNEST SOLVAY/ 14 NOVEMBER 1909.
La Belgique made its first successful flight on June 27, 1909. To
commemorate this success, a ceremony was held at Watermael-
Boitsfort organized by the Cities of Auderghem and Watermael-
Boitsfort to honor Robert Goldschmidt and Ernest Solvay, both
eminent Belgian scientists, who financed the building of the
airship. Rare - unlisted by Malpas and the only the second
we have seen. The other, uninscribed on the reverse,
brought $212.75 in our 2013 Auction #83. (G-H)

NAVIGATION AERIENNE PLAQUETTE, (1909).
CGI3:
272A; Frankenhuis 220. 58 x 80mm. Bronze. Pierre Morlon,
Sc. (Paris Mint Cornucopia BRONZE edgemark). AU. The
obverse design is divided into three panels. The center displays
a figure of the Genius of Aviation. That on the left shows a
period airplane flying over a town while the panel on the right
displays a dirigible flying over the open countryside. Inscribed
in the exergue is: NAVIGATION AERIENNE. The reverse is
also divided into three panels. The center is engraved: DON/ DU
MINISTRE/ DE L’AIR while that on the left depicts an artist
gazing at birds flying in the distance. In exergue: LE REVE/
