Burgess was well-known for his portrayal of female roles. As
a stage manager with a company on tour, he took the place
of the actress, Mrs. Barnaby Bibbs when she was unable to
appear. “Although he disliked the task, he found favor with
the audience and his destiny was thereby settled. After that,
his entire life on stage was spent in grotesque impersonations
in which he burlesqued rather than interpreted the eccentric
personalities of elderly women”
The encased 1901 cent is about
as nice as any I have seen in an encasement, (F)

ACTIONNAIRES along the top border. In a vertical line down
the right side; MARIUS TOUDOIRE ARCHte, On the reverse
a winged genius representing the company unites three figures
representing Paris, Lyons and the Mediterranean. Above; PARIS
LYON MEDITERRANEE. In exergue; FERRO CONJUNGET.
Presented to shareholders as a souvenir of their attendance at
the annual meeting in April, 1901. This is an elusive medal, not
mentioned by Forrer in his extensive listing of medals by Roty.

edgemark.) ChoiceAU. Obv: A symbolic seated figure of France,
her arm extended offering protection to her colonies represented
by three young children of various nationalities. The reverse
displays exotic tropical flora from its colonial nations. A scarce

N. Lytras, Sc. (W. Pittner) Choice Uncirculated with some light
tarnish,. Original cardboard box of issue. Obverse with Athena
holding a wreath over a Phoenix arising from flames. A wreath
on the reverse encloses a commemorative inscription in Greek
dated 1906.
The Olympic Games in 1906 were organized by officials who
were apparently unhappy with the “backseat” that was given the
1904 games held in St. Louis during the Exposition there. While
today’s Olympic officials do not recognize the 1906 Games as
