NEW YORK surrounds a bust of 389.`. The reverse legend:
BELDEN MATHEMATICAL PRIZE * TO surrounds
the engraved inscription: ROBERT J. /McAUSLAND, JR.
/ U P P E R SOPHOMORE/ CLASS. Housed in its original
purple plush Braxmar Co. leather presentation case.
The Belden Medal, established in 1883, is presented for
excellence in pure mathematics. A rare school medal – only the
second we have handled. We sold the first in AU condition
in our 1997 Sale #62 for $137.50. (G)

MATRONS MEDAL, ND.
A two piece hanging badge. 14k
gold. (6.5 grams) Mint Condition. An ornate pinback header
inscribed W.C.T.U. suspends a 37mm drop inscribed MATRONS
MEDAL around a world globe. We are uncertain as to the use of

this medal, but speculate that it was given as an essay prize. (F)

YALE UNIVERSITY BICENTENNIAL MEDAL, 1901.
Baxter 217; Marqusee 325. 69.5mm. Bronze. Bela Lyon Pratt,
Sc. Struck by Tiffany & Co. Choice Uncirculated. Obverse with
an allegorical figure of Truth leading Apollo in a chariot through
the clouds. LVX ET VERITAS above. On the reverse there are
flaring torches at the sides of a 5 line inscription: VNIVERSITAS
YALENSIS /A.D.MDCCCCI / CONCELEBRAT / COLLEGIVM
YALENSE / A.D.MDCCI CONDITVM.
Pratt was an alumnus of Yale and won a competition to do this
most striking medal. This is encased under glass inside of a darkly
stained 4 ¾ x 5 ¼” wooden frame with a 2 x 6” base. Some Yale
alum should like this for an attractive desk piece. (F-G)
