Neil MacNeil reports that the obverse die for this medal was

reduced to 17.5mm and was used to strike replicas in bronze,

silver and gold, for use on such jewelry items as tie clips,

charms and cuff links. They were not available commercially

but were apparently distributed as Presidential gifts. (I)

JOHN F. KENNEDY MEMORIAL MEDAL GALVANO,

1963.

See Rochette K-63A. 10” Copper. Ralph J. Menconi,

Sc. (MACO) Mint Condition. Screw holes on the reverse for

attachment to a base. The obverse legend, JOHN FITZGERALD

KENNEDY surrounds a front facing bust of the martyred

President. A symbolic eternal flame is at left and his vital dates,

1917 1963 are in the right field.

This design was originally intended as a campaign piece for the

1964 election. It was revised after the assassination and offered

to the public as a memorial issue in bronze and silver. A single

gold specimen was presented to Mrs. Kennedy. (H)
