Sc. Choice AU. (Gorham Co.) The obverse legend; ALASKA

YUKON PACIFIC EXPOSITION -1909 SEATTLE 1909-

surrounds a seated robed woman holding a branch in one hand

and an oval bust of Washington in the other. Her feet rest on a

cornucopia . To her right stand two miners and at lower left is

an Indian in a canoe. In the background are a steamboat and a

rising sun. On the reverse, a wreath surrounds an uninscribed

PANAMA PACIFIC EXPOSITION OFFICIAL AWARD

MEDAL, 1915.

Baxter 114; Marqusee 150. 70.4mm. Bronze.

John Flanagan, Sc. (U.S. Mint). Uncirculated – with some minor

scattered tiny spots. The obverse bears a pair of nude figures

representing the uniting of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. The

reverse features a view of the Jewell Tower, the architectural

centerpiece of the exposition, surrounded by an expo legend.

MEDAL OF AWARD inscribed within a cartouche below the

building.

The U.S. Mint struck only 2,000 of these medals in bronze - far

fewer than the numbers struck for the official award medals for

the Columbian and the 1904 Saint Louis Expositions.

figure representing “Friendliness” with arms outstretched to

right of aerial view of expo grounds. The reverse bears an

Art deco styled winged female figure representing VICTORY
