Military and Related Tokens and Medals

Reverse scene of a family fleeing the destruction. Dated 1943 at

bottom.

This stirring medal commemorates the beginning of “round-the-

clock” bombing of Cologne in March of 1943. In spite of this, the

Cathedral never did receive major damage. The example in the

2006 Bottcher Sale realized 600 euros. (H-I)

SO-CALLED DOLLARS

We are pleased to offer another selection from the So-Called Dollar

collection of Michigan numismatist Don Ensley. Most of

the pieces in this offering have been slabbed and professionally

graded by Michigan Masters Numismatic Service (MMNS). Each

slab pedigrees the piece as being from the “D. Ensley Collection.”

Since the time this collection was slabbed and graded, MMNS has

moved its location to Florida and changed its name to

“Masters Grading Service” (MMS)

In our opinion, the grading standards used by MMNS are at

least equal to that of NGC. We will, however, continue to view

such grading with our own eyes and standards and where we

differ, we will note our grade or qualification immediately

following the MMNS grade.
