made with a swastika on the shield that was approved and struck

in 60mm. and 36mm sizes. This is an early, rare piece before

the design was changed. It’s absence in the 2006 auction of the

1700+ lot Bottcher collection of Goetz medals attests to its rarity.

An important and imposing medal which catalogs Hitler’s path

to power. ($1750+)

Bronze F. Bayer, Sc. Edge: PREUSS. STAATSMUENZE

FEINSILBER. ( s i c ) . Uncirculated. Obverse bust of Hitler

to the right, “Reichs Chancellor Adolf Hitler”. At center on the

reverse, 1933 is superimposed over an eagle’s head superimposed

over a swastika. This is ringed by a wreath which encloses the

dates: 30 January 5 March 21 March & 12 November. Outer

legend: “One People One Empire One Fuhrer

.”

The dates around the eagle refer to the following in 1933: 1/30 -

Hitler is made Chancellor; 3/5 - Reichstag election in which the

Nazis obtained 288 seats; 5/21 - passage of the Act that gave

the government dictatorial powers; 11/12 - Reichstag elections

which gave all the seats to the Nazis since opposition parties

were now outlawed. (F)

AU. As above, but 25¢ denomination.

This internment camp for enemy aliens was established at Crystal

City, Texas in 1942. It was one of two camps administered by the

Immigration and Naturalization Service which housed women

and families. In 1943 a token system was devised to allow

inmates to purchase needed foodstuffs or clothing items at a

general store. Originally, a family of two adults with two small

children was  allotted $6.00 worth of coupons per month. In 1944

the amount was raised to $6.50, (G-H)
