The obverse depicts the monumental lion sculpture by Auguste
Bartholdi (sculptor of the Statue of Liberty), installed at the city
of Belfort. The statue commemorates the defense of the city
during the Franco Prussian war. Rx: An incused inscription in 4
lines: U.F.F.S.A./ CHAMPIONNAT INTERSCOLAIRE/ 1921/ E.

BELFORT 1923. Struck for the national shooting competition that

PORRIGERE LVMEN around a standing figure of a nude young
man at right reaching out to receive a lit torch of knowledge
from a seated elder. Léon Leclère (1874-1966), was a French
poet, musician, painter and art critic, best known for his artistic
association with the composer Maurice Ravel.
