A two piece bronze hanging badge by Childs. AU.
Rectangular pinback header inscribed: REPUBLICAN VETERAN
YATES CLUB/ OF ILLINOIS. Chain suspension to a 45mm drop
in the shape of a five star emblem laid over a wreath. At the star
center are two ovals containing the busts of Richard Yates Sr. and
Richard Yates, Jr. and the dates 1861 and 1900
Sr. was the Governor of Illinois during the Civil War and Jr. was
Illinois Governor from 1901-1905. The club was composed of Civil
War veterans and was formed in 1900 to further the candidacy of
Yates, Jr. for governor. (C)

Signed “M” for George Morgan? The quality is certainly high
enough to be his work! John Griggs served as Governor of
New Jersey from 1896-1898 when he resigned to assume the
position of Attorney General of the United States in the McKinley
Administration. He served in that capacity until 1901. (C-D)
