PRESIDENT OF U.S. GEN. U.S. GRANT. around. The reverse

legend: I INTEND TO FIGHT IT OUT ON THIS LINE surrounds IF

IT TAKES/ * * * / ALL SUMMER.

The reverse quotation is taken from a well-known War Department

dispatch sent by Grant on May 11, 1864 in which he described

the combat in his campaign against Richmond with favorable

Extremely Fine, or so, but with a deep pencil point dig on the

obverse below Seymour’s chin. The reverse has a similar dig at

center plus some scattered scratches to either side. (C-D)

with a die break running through the B in PUBLIC thru the E in

REFORM. Listed only in brass. (D)
