Inuit Sealskin Quilt, c. 1885-1915
Constructed of pieced seal skins in both winter and summer coats. Sewn together using
sinew, this piece would have been soft and supple when first made and used as a bed quilt.
Its small size indicates it may have been made for use by a woman or child. The design
is a star center medallion with bars of pieced summer and winter seal coats outlined and
accented by strips of dyed leather in a zigzag-patterned edge.
