Official Presidential Inaugural Medals

The 1937 medal is the only one where the President’s portrait

appears on one side and the Vice President’s on the other. It

has the distinction of having the lowest mintage of any of the

four publicly offered Roosevelt official medals. 1,006 were

originally struck. 90 were later melted in 1942 to contribute to

the war effort. ( $800-1000)

AND

NAMED

COMMEMORATIVE

INVITATION, 1937.

Unlisted by Krohn. 9 x 12 ½”. Mint

condition This invitation has been personalized TO “MR. AND

MRS. HAROLD SINTON” on the third line. (Mrs. Sinton was

the niece of FDR’s secretary, Grace Tully.)

Personalized invitations such as this were issued from 1933

through 1957, after which they ceased to be personalized.

They were given to VIP recipients only because of the extra

work of personalizing them and were intended as historical

keepsakes only since they served no other function. Every

person whom received one of these inventions also received the

so-called “Congressional Invitation” which actually entitled the

recipient to attend the inaugural ceremonies. Edward Krohn in

his

Presidential Inauguration Collectibles Catalog”

lists and

pictures all of the personalized commemorative invites through

1957 except for the 1937 – certainly a testament to its rarity. This

is only the second 1937 commemorative invite we have ever

offered. (G)
