A MULING OF TAIT McKENZIE ATHLETIC MEDALS,
ND.

Uncirculated. This is a muling of McKenzie’s 1914 “Joy of
Effort,” and his “Three Punters” medals (executed in 1932-33)
The obverse presents a dynamic view of three runners in full
stride as they pass over a hurdle. A banner below is inscribed:
THE JOY OF EFFORT. The reverse portrays three punters in
various stages in kicking a football. The Danbury edgemark
indicates that the medal was struck no earlier than 1973 when
MACO moved to Danbury from New York City. We last sold a
bronze example in our 2008 Sale #78 for $368.00. (H)

Bronze. R. Tait McKenzie, Sc. Edgemarked MACO Danbury
1988. “BRONZE. .999 SILVER- PLATED. Uniface,
but with a 7.4mm applied extension to accommodate a screw
attachment. Uncirculated. Obverse with a reduced sized version
of McKenzie’s famous Shield of Athletes which won him the
third prize medal in the International Olympic competition of
art as related to sport in 1932. Medallic Art Company acquired
the rights to this art and throughout the years has used it on
a variety of medals including The City of New York Sports
Achievement medal and the R. Tait McKenzie Centennial

of an old Roman fort in what is now the English county of East
Sussex. More than a little erotic! It is surely a centerpiece for a
