, sold in the room to a couple from Ohio who flew to New

York City for the sale. The buyers prevailed over an Internet bid-

der, paying $25,000 (est. $8000/12,000) for the 15¼" x 20¾" signed

painting.

This pair of John Sargent Noble (British, 1848-1896) oil paintings sold to a

buyer on the phone for $12,500 (est. $3000/5000).

, each 8¼" x 14¼", are titled, inscribed “copyright reserved,” and

signed “J.S. Noble” on the reverse, according to the salesroom notice.

I Wish I Had a Polka Dot Bikini

by

George Rodrigue (1944-2013), esti-

mated at $20,000/30,000, sold online

for $37,500. Signed “Rodrigue” lower

right and titled and dated 1996 on the

reverse, it is 30" x 25".

The buyer of this painting by John Nost Sartorius (British,

1759-1828) entered the salesroom a few minutes before

the lot came up for sale. He paid $6250 for it. Signed and

dated 1806, the 25¼" x 27½" oil painting,

A Liver and

White Spaniel

, was estimated at $3000/5000. The buyer

left immediately after his purchase.

A private collector from North Carolina went home with this Philip

Eustace Stretton (British, 1863-1930) oil painting,

Greyhound in a

Landscape

, paying $4750 for it (est. $6000/8000). The painting, 25" x

30", is signed and dated “Philip E. Stretton/ 1902” lower right. The

collector came to New York for the Westminster Kennel Club Dog

Show and owns Irish setters.

The least expensive item of the auction, this Marguerite

Kirmse (1885-1954) etching,

Royal Danes

, sold in the

salesroom to a woman who bought several other works

by Kirmse. Titled and signed in the lower margin, the

9¾" x 6¾" image sold for $125 (est. $400/600).

Bidders in the salesroom and on the phones chased after this John

Emms (British, 1843-1912) oil painting of three hounds and a ter-

rier.

Waiting for Master

, signed “JNO EMMS” lower left, eventu-

ally sold to a phone bidder for $68,750 (est. $30,000/50,000). Before

hammering down the 28" x 36" unframed painting, auctioneer Karl

Green looked at the bidder in the room and inquired, “No regrets?”

This Thomas Blinks (Brit-

ish, 1860-1912) oil painting

was in the Bonhams sale last

year and failed to sell. This

time, with a lower estimate

of $40,000/60,000, it sold for

$43,750.
