Unsigned pencil and pastel drawing of the Great Lakes

schooner

Queen City

, 27" x 33" with frame, overall dark toning,

two vertical stains, taped to underside of mat, together with a

letter from the captain’s daughter, $1020. Launched in 1873, the

ship was built for the iron ore and grain trade and cost about

$60,000. In September 1869 the

Queen City

was driven onto Hog

Island Reef in Lake Michigan and sank.
