This Tiffany Studios lamp is described as an
“irregular Poppy” table lamp with heavily
textured red and pink flowers in drapery-type
glass on a light green field. Signed on the shade
and bronze base, which features onions and
shoots in relief, and complete with an acid-
etched heat cap, it was regular enough to score
a direct hit on the $40,000/60,000 estimate at
$53,325.
This Tiffany Studios Peony table lamp on a
four-socket stick base finished in a green and
brown patina has the shade rim imprinted
“Tiffany Studios N. Y. 1505.” The lamp had
been sold at Christie’s in April 1995, and this
time around it nailed down a mid-estimate
price of $71,100.
This Tiffany Studios lamp
with a mosaic of red,
yellow, and orange tulips
on a sky-blue confetti glass
background is signed with
a Tiffany Studios tag and
stands on a model #461 Art
Nouveau bronze base known
as the “penguin design”
for its resemblance to a
penguin’s foot. It sold within
the estimate for $38,512.50.
This Tiffany Studios lamp with a bouquet of
yellow, brown, and pink pansies on a light cream
background and on a bullet-shaped base resting
on four cat’s paws atop a circular disk, with a
possibly non-matching acid-etched cap, headed
out for $17,775.
This Tiffany Studios hanging bronze
lantern in a heavy bronze frame has
six iridescent amber- and gold-colored
turtleback panels over a lattice of
rectangular tiles in three by five grids. The
ceiling cap and hooks were replacements,
but it still added ten grand to the
$22,000/26,000 estimate, finishing up at
$36,735.
One of a handful of items to crack the six-figure mark, this one
is a 12-sided Tiffany Studios model #611 hanging chandelier,
with clusters of green grapes hanging over a rectangular trellis
and backed by panels of striated blue and green glass. Beaded
trim borders the lower shade rim, and along the top edge is an
array of handing hooks arranged in a crown-like formation. It
finally settled in at $109,612.50.
This Tiffany Studios table lamp has a band of
white dogwood flowers on a variegated green,
cream, and yellow background, on a vertically
ribbed bronze base with five small ball feet, all
in a rich brown patina. It ended just under the
$28,000/32,000 estimate for $24,885.
The scene on this obverse-
and reverse-painted Handel
lamp was reminiscent of a
Benjamin Champney forest
landscape with a rocky stream
running from the depths of the
background. Signed “Handel
5673” on the interior rim and
“Handel” on the aperture ring
and resting on an original
Handel tree trunk base, it was
a solid hit at $17,775.
Here’s another expensive lamp that
proved to be even more expensive than
it was cracked up to be. Estimated at
a mere $50,000/70,000, this Tiffany
Studios Poppy lamp on a bronze #225
base cruised all the way up to $219,225.
