face and remnants of white pigment,
8¼" long, sold for $27,500 (est.
$7000/10,000) to the Canadian dealer
who bought 17 masks.
This Eskimo mask, 7¾" long, with teeth and
with marine ivory inlay remaining in one
eye sold for $18,750 (est. $4000/6000) to the
Canadian dealer who bought 17 masks.
This 9¼" long Eskimo mask with a
couple of teeth remaining and with an
unusual projection from the forehead
sold for $11,250 (est. $6000/9000) to the
overseas dealer who bought two other
masks.
A European dealer paid $13,750 (est.
$6000/9000) for this Eskimo mask that
likely represents a seal, according to the
catalog. Said Lindbergs of this collection,
“They sold themselves.”
A southern California dealer in the room
paid $17,500 (est. $4000/6000) for this 6¾"
long Eskimo mask with traces of ocher-red
adornment across the nose and upper lip.

of the 17 masks bought by a Canadian dealer on
the phone. He paid $25,000 (est. $4000/6000) for
this one.
This double-face wood float, 6½" long, sold to a Canadian collector for $17,500
(est. $3000/4000). The price was “more than I expected,” said Lindbergs.

pigment throughout and touches of red,
sold to Hawaiian collector Mark Blackburn
for $37,500 (est. $4000/6000). Blackburn
enlivened the Langworthy bidding with
surprisingly large preemptive opening bids
such as $5000 and $10,000 (“He made it fun,”
said Lindbergs). After being the underbidder
on many of the previous lots, Blackburn
finally got one he was after.
A Hopi polychrome jar attributed to Nampeyo
(c. 1859-1942), 7¾" high x 14¾" diameter, with some
restoration, sold to an Arizona collector for $10,000
(est. $15,000/20,000).
An Acoma four-color
storage jar, 15½" high x 17"
diameter, sold for $10,000 (est.
$8000/12,000) to a southern
California dealer who was at
the auction. The jar was given
as a wedding gift at least 50
years ago.
