“A picker new to us brought us this
Seth Thomas Number 12 Regulator
clock from an estate,” Fontaine
explained. “He was not sure what he
had orwhat it was worth, but hewent
away happy.” Having a 14" silvered
dial signed “Seth Thomas Clock
Co.,” this eight-day weight-driven
time-only movement clock brought
$26,620 (est. $10,000/15,000). It has a
patent date of “Nov. 27th, 1888” and
is housed in a massive oak case with
a carved crest and base and turned
columns. It measures 72" high.
Hanging on the wall of a home for the past 54 years, this set of
uncirculated Flying Eagle and Indian Head cent coins, 61 in total,
sold with its original receipt showing that its purchase price in
1962 was $3650. The collection of coins from 1857 through 1909-S
realized $57,475 (est. $10,000/15,000).
No longer standing sentry at a Great Barrington, Massachusetts, lighting
store, this pair of carved marble sphinxes found a new home to the tune of
$18,755 (est. $10,000/15,000).
Signed “Cartier, 227I,” these 22k gold
earrings have tourmaline centers with
diamonds. The pair sold for $12,100
(est. $8000/12,000).
This bronze animated European
locomotive industrial clock sold
for $22,990 (est. $20,000/30,000).
Cast in the form of a steam
locomotive, this clock also has a
stick thermometer, a compass,
and an aneroid barometer as
well as a timepiece. At 18" x
18½" x 9", this hefty timekeeper
weighs 55 pounds.
Attributed to R.J. Horner, this 60" diameter oak dining table
features a filigree-carved border and drop apron. Its square split-
pedestal base has figural winged creature supports with claw feet.
It made $10,587.50 (est. $5000/7000).
These Chinese teak and porcelain floor screens were quite a pair at $54,450
(est. $80,000/120,000). Each screen is 68½" x 47" x 18½".
Twenty pink apple blossoms are scat-
tered across the shade of this Tiffany
Studios table lamp that sold for $18,150
(est. $15,000/25,000). The blossoms are
enhanced with yellow centers, green
leaves, and amber branches all on a green
and white striated background. This lamp
has a bronze urn font base.
Having nine daffodils with green flowers growing over
its 16" shade, this Tiffany Studios table lamp sold
for $21,780 (est. $20,000/30,000). Its ribbed bronze
library base stands on five ball feet and is signed
“Tiffany Studios, New York, 3602.”
John Fontaine found this Louis Vuitton trunk in the basement of a
consignor’s home. “We had sold a great many things
from a large home in Williamstown last winter when
I saw this trunk again in their basement. The trunk
was filthy, but I knew what it was and suggested
they sell it at auction,” he said. “The family did not
want to do that at the first go-around, but we sold
it this time, and they were shocked. We had interest
all over the world concerning this trunk.” Estimated
at $500/750, this canvas-wrapped trunk with the
Vuitton pattern went for $4537.50.
