Guernsey’s will be conducting an unprecedented, mostly unreserved Auction on March 27, 28 at the

historic Tribeca offices of Urban Archaeology in New York City. At auction will be approximately one

thousand architectural artifacts discovered by UA over the decades.

For more than forty years, Urban Archaeology has been at the vanguard of saving historic architectur-

al elements from destruction. It has been the organization of choice by leading architects, designers,

corporate buyers, and sophisticated home owners who have envisioned the inclusion of dramatically

handsome, patinated, vintage objects in their noteworthy projects. Many have visited the firm’s building

in the heart of NYC’s landmarked Franklin Street where the display of treasured items resembles more

a museum than a showroom. With additional offices in Bridgehampton, Boston, and Chicago, Urban

Archaeology has been the go-to source for everything from monumental outdoor statuary to extraordi-

nary wrought-iron estate gates to remarkable, often unique creations of every description in assorted

metals, stone, ceramics, glass, and wood.

A review of the Auction Catalogue reveals such revered names as Edgar Brandt, Samuel Yellin and

Emile-Jacques Ruhlmann. Prominent structures including The Plaza and St. Regis Hotels as well as the

Yale University Library are featured along with such stunning settings as Paris’ magnificent Place de la

Concorde and iconic Bon Marche. Simply put, imagine bidding on the original statuesque Mermaid and

Merman figures from the Place de la Concorde’s breathtaking fountain or the awe-inspiring Baptistry

Gates from Fifth Avenue’s famed St. Patrick’s Cathedral... fantastique! (It should be noted that there will

also be many, many far smaller items suited to just about any space.)

So here’s the story. The Auction will begin at 1:00 on both Friday and Saturday, March 27 and 28

live at Urban Archaeology, 143 Franklin Street, NYC. Public Previewing will take place on Tuesday,

Wednesday, and Thursday, March 24 - 26, from 10am - 7pm at the same location. Internet Bidding is

on liveauctioneers.com. We can accommodate advance previewing by appointment. To arrange for tele-

phone bidding, for an Advance Preview, to get the catalogue or to answer any questions, please contact
