A 19th-century 8¾" x 6" Pennsylvania octagonal toleware

tray with a vibrant yellow, green, and orange decoration

sold for $2706 (est. $1200/1600). At the Richard and Joane

Smith collection sale at Pook & Pook on October 30, 2010, it

had sold online for $3081.

Heinrich Engelhard of southeastern Pennsylvania,

active 1819-36, created this ink and watercolor fraktur

religious text for “Georg Etter.” Dated 1830, the

13½" x 11½" fraktur, ex-George Scott collection and

ex-David Wheatcroft, sold for $2880 (est. $2000/4000).

At Christie’s Scott sale in June 1994, it had sold for

$4140.

From a New York collection,

this circa 1760 Massachusetts

QueenAnnemahogany tea table

with a dished top and scalloped

apron, supported by delicate

cabriole legs terminating in pad

feet and retaining an old mellow

finish, 25¾" x 30" x 18¾", sold

for $9000 (est. $5000/10,000).

This circa 1770 Pennsylvania figured walnut or mahogany

chest-on-chest with three short drawers and six long

drawers, on straight bracket feet, with original unusual

open rococo brasses and an old dry surface, sold for $9000

in the salesroom to Lancaster dealer Vernon Gunnion,

underbid by Robesonia dealer Greg Kramer. “I’m taking

this one home and keeping it,” said Gunnion.

This circa 1800 New England

painted candlestand retains

an old blue surface. With an

octagonal top and turned

standard supported by

snake feet, the 24½" x 15½"

candlestand sold for $2640 (est.

$2000/4000). Northeast Auctions

had sold it on August 3, 2002,

from the Kahn collection.

From the Mahantongo area of

Pennsylvania, this early 19th-century

painted hard pine Dutch cupboard

with elaborately reeded pilasters and

lower doors and star-carved drawers,

retaining a later blue surface, 81½" x

52¾", with a Titus Geesey provenance,

sold for $10,200 (est. $4000/8000).
