Hudson River school painting by J.W. Bell (American, 19th century), oil
on canvas, signed, 11¾" x 19½" plus frame, $3690. The catalog noted,
“The identity of the artist in question is a mystery. It is likely one of
the following artists: John Walter Bell (Ohio, 1845-1895), or James
Wethered Bell (Ohio/New York, 19th century). What little biographical
information is available on the two painters is eerily similar, and they
may have been confused for one and the same.”
Folk art toothpick Ferris wheel diorama, labeled “Ferris wheel made
by an inmate/ at the Ohio State Prison/ between 1940-1950,” the cus-
tom Plexiglas display case 23" high x 27¼" wide x 26" deep, $660.
