Newport,” said Robin Starr. The buyer was an absentee.

canvas was signed, inscribed, dated twice

(two different dates), and in a period

frame. The full inscription says, “Painted

at Ogunquit / Early October 1919 / Emil.

Carlsen. / February 8th 1923.” A William

Macbeth Gallery label was on the back of

the frame, and one from the Cooley Gal-

lery was on the frame backing.

the 24" x 34" oil on canvas was signed and dated on a

label on the back (“carreño - 50”).

on canvas opened from the desk at $8000 and sold to a phone bidder for

$28,290.

An unusual one by Anthony Thieme (1888-1954),
