Nancy Pierce (1792-1837), sister of President Franklin
Pierce. Oil on wood panel, 26¾ x 22¼ inches, inscription
verso. Descended directly through the Pierce family,
accompanied by an extensive file of family photos and
correspondence. Belknap also painted portraits of
Governor and Mrs. Benjamin Pierce , the parents of Nancy
and the President, c. 1810 (Henry Ford Museum), Frank
H. Pierce and Kirk Pierce , c. 1840, nephews of Nancy. See
