Maine Antique Digest, April 2015 35-A
- AUCTION -
A piece of history in the form of a stitched wall
panel features the coat of arms and motto of
Spain under the fascist Franco regime, “Una
Grande Libre,” which translates to “One, Great,
Free”—ever ironic. The 92" x 72" panel was
made after 1936 and sold for $330. Thompson
photo.
A bronze sculpture, a reproduction of an
ancient original, titled
Runner
(about 9"
high) sold for $192.50. Thompson photo.
George Brennan’s Juvenia Slimatic 18k gold
wrist watch (with 894 caliber automatic move-
ment), sold for $1760.
This 18k gold buckle of mysterious design,
featuring seemingly meaningless num-
bers and letters: 265676 and the letters
“TNGIATW.” Maybe it’s a code? Measur-
ing 2" x 3", it sold for $2640.
This International Watch Company pocket
wristwatch in a 14k yellow gold case, on a cus-
tom openwork stamped 18k gold bracelet, sold
for $2420.
In the foreground is an English oak
double drop-leaf occasional table
on turned supports that found a
buyer at $424.60. On it is an early
20th-century high-fired stoneware
globular vase (made into a lamp)
that fetched $474.20. Behind it is
one of a pair of signed circa 1760
French or Quebec provincial beech-
wood armchairs that sold together
for $3300. Thompson photo.
Detail of the skirt of the
French
provincial
or
Canadian chair. Thomp-
son photo.
Detail of the crest carving on the French
provincial or Canadian chair. Thompson
photo.
Detail of the signature on the rear seat rail: “L. Mayeux.”
Thompson photo.
A trove of reverse glass paintings for sale, all early 18th c.
Included are historical, seasons, four corners of the globe,
evangelists and family scenes.
I only know of one person who can repair glass pictures, and
all glass breaks for that matter. Ask me, he is in Palm Beach.
