This Soviet army wool overcoat was the one item
from among the Tom Clancy estate lots that appeared
to be closely associated with the author’s novels.
The coat features a patch of the Soviet Signal Corps
insignia as well as buttons with the Soviet hammer
and sickle emblem within a star. The attached medal
is very “Red Octoberish.” It reads
Slava Sovetskim
Podvodnikam
(Glory to the Soviet Submariners). The
coat sold for $281.50 (est. $300/500).
The well-proportioned 4" high
American redware jar dates from
the early 19th century and is in
excellent condition. It sold for
$75 (est. $50/75).
This nice 27¼" tall cast-iron Victorian
figural umbrella stand from the
mid-19th century has various foliate
patterns, a riding helmet, and a fox
mask overlooking riding boots, and it
features a removable base tray. The
stand brought $250 (est. $100/150).
This 36" x 14½" Chinese ink and color
on paper landscape surprised many by
selling for $13,750 (est. $60/80). The
image shows a lone figure watching as
a second figure plows a field. There is a
dwelling in the distance with mountains
beyond. There are two red seals, which
evidently sealed its high bid.
The top surface of this large petrified wood dining table is brightly striated and
has been sealed. The table rests atop an iron trestle base with a pierced diamond
design stretcher. There is no maker’s mark, but it is believed that the table is from
Gibson’s Studio at West Virginia’s Greenbrier Resort. The tabletop measures 77"
x 36". There is no indication of what it weighs. It sold for $10,625 (est. $800/1200).
Estate of Tom Clancy.
This rectangular giltwood chinoiserie mirror features a
distinctive pagoda-form pediment. The frame’s sides are
carved to resemble bundles of bamboo. The mirror brought
$1187.50 (est. $200/400). Rees estate.
This American coin silver
pitcher is marked Canfield Bros.
(Baltimore, active 1850-81). The
body and domed base display
grape and vine decoration as do
the handle and rim edge. The
15¼" high vessel is monogrammed
and sold to a telephone bidder for
$1375 (est. $400/600).
