“Alexander,” Claude Alexander
Conlin, billed as “The Man Who
Knows,” sold for $1008.
Folk art from the Caldwell
collection included this stone
carving of Adam and Eve,
20½" x 27½", by Kentucky
sculptor Tim Lewis (b. 1952)
that brought $4032.
A consignment of 20th-century art in various mediums from the collection of a
retired sculptor and art patron in Middle Tennessee attracted serious bidding. This
23¾" x 28¾" abstract painting by Paul Jenkins (1923-2012), labeled twice on the
reverse
Phenomena Cut Heather
and marked “Paris 1962,” sold for $12,390 (est.
$6800/7800).
The offerings from the collection
of a retired sculptor included
Pierrot Lunaire
by Sonia Delaunay
(1885-1979), a limited-edition wool
carpet, 11'3" x 8'6½", in bold color
blocks that climbed to $8968.
From the collection of Charles and Ann Wells of Nashville, this Navajo
woven rug, similar to designs from J.B. Moore’s Crystal Trading Post,
sold for $2714.
All Tennessee samplers are rarities. This example with
flowers and a pair of figures, made in Maury County by
Margaret A. Reaves in 1830, brought a strong $5192.
